The
principle of VAX virtualization is simple: remove the old VAX
hardware and replace it by a combination of more current
hardware, its operating system and the virtual VAX software
layer. CHARON-VAX rebuilds the hardware environment of the old
VAX hardware inside the new computer system. The VAX software
(the operating systems and everything on top of that, including
your applications and files) will not know the difference
between the old and the new system, and therefore no changes to
the software are required.
This means you can replace your old VAX by a new computer
without changing your software.
Many customers have preceded you on this road and they are very
pleased with the results. For more information about successful
projects we refer to the Emulators@Work page on this website.
FutureVAX emulator systems that
completely replaces your existing microVAX II - 3900 systems.
These microVAX systems supported Qbus adapters that are
connected to the vital installations they control. Or they
are the platform for real-time applications. FutureVAX systems
resemble the VAX they replace and it is merely a matter of
replugging the cables of the peripherals and transferring the
disk content to make them operational.

CHARON-VAX is licensed software
that must be installed and configured by the user and thus
requires some expertise of emulation technology. The emulator
software addresses the installed base of standard VAX computers
with no special devices or applications to support.
VAX-emulator
solutions offer equivalent or better performance compared to the
systems they replace. Dependent on your selection you can create
additional headroom for expansion, without making changes to the
software.

CHARON VAX is available for most VAXes that have been
manufactured by Digital Equipment Corporation:
The XM/XK/XL range covers the single CPU vaxes
The 66x0 range covers the multi CPU VAXes
These versions both run on Windows platforms. For the HP
OpenVMS/Integrity platform we have the /3198 and /4705 version. |
